About me

We are currently mostly based in Nelson, Havelock, the Marlborough Sounds and Wellington. We move between these locations alot, With lots of time on our boat. We bought our 57ft launch a few years ago and it was our first EVER boat! We bought it instead of a house up-size (which was kind of needed for our family of six!) or Bach and we all have loved this decision! My Mum and Dad work in digital design and marketing, so we all work remotely as we take our starlink where ever we go.
The last couple of years have taught me a lot about myself, and I have realised that I love being on boats so much that I would like to spend my 20's working on Super Yachts. As first mate on the Oriental Lady my jobs are quite varied and I have been building up and logging my hours behind the helm. Further education is really important to me so I achieved my Day Skippers Certificate as soon as I could and am looking forward to gaining more certifications. I would like to work through various other marine courses as I become old enough, and eventually end up being a captain on Super Yachts one day.
I love reading, whether we’re out in the sun on our boat, on a car trip, or before bed. I also play a little bit of piano (a few songs) but would love to learn more.

My family have a marketing and design business, so I'm learning the ropes as I go, and helping out with work as a job in 'afterschool' hours.
I’ve recently learned that for people working on yachts and traveling the Mediterranean, a good skill to have is the ability to speak French, so maybe I’ll pick that subject up over the next few years. I’m currently checking out Duolingo for this.
My family consists of my parents, two brothers, a sister, four birds and a dog. We have a really small extended family. I’m pretty sure that’s why my parents decided to have four kids; they needed to increase the numbers!
I love my lifestyle right now and I feel very fortunate to be in the position I’m in. Studying online with Te Kura, I'm able to persue my dreams.
Nga Mihi,
Sophia xx
